The Merit 735T treadmill is an upgrade from Merits previous models. It offers more room for you to run on, a motor that has a lifetime guarantee (not even the 725T has this!), and an extra durable frame.  But is the lifetime guarantee the only reason to go for the 735T?

  • 6 program choices: Manual, rolling hills, weight loss, fat blast, cardio burn, endurance challenge
  • 1.75 CHP (2.75 THP) drive motor; 0.5-10 mph speed range (0.1 increments); 0-10% elevation range
  • 18 × 52″ running area with AEROsoft cushioning; Treadmill folds up easily for storage.
  • 4 red LED windows with LED brickyard display; water bottle holder in console; cooling fan; contact heart rate monitor
  • Warranties: Lifetime frame and motor, 90-days parts and labor. User capacity 275 lbs.

I ordered my treadmill from Amazon and got it pretty promptly, although I had to take an afternoon off waiting for delivery. It is heavy. Actually it is really heavy! Ask the delivery guys (nicely) if they will bring it into the room you want to use it in. If that is up or down some stairs ask real nice! This is a pretty big home treadmill, so if you can, measure up your room and doorways first to make sure you have enough room for it and to see if you will be able to move it once it is put together. The treadmill is 73 x 33 x 50 inches and weight a hefty 152 pounds. In most cases, once made this treadmill is not going to fit through any doorways. It should take no longer than an hour for 1 person to put together, but it will be easier if you have an “assistant” (child, partner, room mate, whoever you can recruit!) to help you construct it.

The Merit 735T treadmill is a folding treadmill which is a great space saver when it is not being used. Fold it up, have the whole thing against a wall and your room is not going to be totally crowded. It folds up and down smoothly and quickly. It has 6 pre programmed workouts so you can just get going instantly, although it is best to read the manual and understand the safety features before going. It feels solid beneath your feet and absorbs quite a lot of the force from your steps, making it easy on your joints. It is noisy though – the motor, your footsteps, the constant beeping..  The best thing to do whilst on this treadmill, is to stick in some earphones and listen to some LOUD music/tv.

Some of it’s best features are it’s instant incline/decline buttons, and the heart monitoring. The ability to change the incline as you are running means you can really mix up your workout as you are going and push yourself further. Monitoring your heart rate is important so that you don’t over do it, and you don’t “under do it”. You want to find out where your heart rate should be for program for you to best burn your body fat or for you to get fitter – depending on what you want to do. For me I try and keep my heart rate around 160.

Apart from the noise, a couple of little niggles are that you need to bend down (avoiding hitting your head) to use the on / off switch. It is not the only model like this, but I do not understand the purpose of it. Also it comes with a fan that doesn’t aim the cool air at you, thus making it pointless.

Well all in all, the merit fitness 735T is a very good treadmill. Sturdy, easy on the legs, fairly powerful etc. The life time guarantee on the motor is a great plus too. It has it’s faults and it doesn’t come with any brilliant software… and the screen it pretty small, but if you are after a good home treadmill just to go running on to get fit, this is a well priced treadmill that will do the job.

Let me start off by saying, I LOVE the Proform Power 995! For the price you pay you get an incredible treadmill bundled with features that both a long time runner and someone new to the sport will find useful and refreshing. It even folds up to take up very little space. It does has a few small issues (putting it together)  but nothing serious and nothing that would put me off it. Proform Power 995 Treadmill Review

When you first get the Proform Power 995 delivered you will have to spend a couple of hours putting it together. I did it myself without any problems, however you might find it easier if you can get a friend or a partner to help you – at least at certain points when it does get a little tough by yourself. Once put together you should notice how firm it all feels – it is a gym quality treadmill. It is a pretty big treadmill to have in the house, but it folds up nicely to in a closet or against a wall.

Once switched on the first thing that will hit you (or not hit you!) is how quietly it runs. That is great news for anyone who likes to watch tv, listen to music, or just quietly contemplate whilst running.

If you are not interested in all the additional features it packs you can just switch on one of the many pre programmed workouts and get running.  But as I am always interested in features lets have a look at a few:

    iFit Live Technology

If you have never used (or better yet heard) of iFit Live, you are in for a treat. Basically IFit live connects you to the net or Iphone and stores and tracks your workouts, lets you create or download loads more workouts, allows you to track you meals etc. The best thing about it, in my opinion, is that it is integrated with Google Maps. That means that you can choose just about any route in the developed world to go on a run in. Fancy going for a run in your neighbourhood but it is a bit to cold? No problem, program in the workout and do it in your living room. Practising for a marathon? The New York, London, etc? Why not go for a run on the actual marathon route with the proform power 995 automatically adjusting for the slopes on the run. If you want to really recreate it, hook up your laptop or iphone to the google maps route, go to street view, and watch the route you are running. Pretty cool right?

    Iphone Workout Compatibility

Record your results straight onto your Iphone (or, I believe, most other modern smart phones).

    Cushion Deck

Basically it comes with extra suspension below the base to absorb more of the power you legs put into it whilst running. This means you are going to get a more comfortable run whilst keeping you legs (knees and ankles) protected.

For the price, this is an excellent treadmill. The parts are solid (except, my only little gripe, the hand rails are a bit lose – I suspect that may be down to me putting it together badly) the features and specs are great for this kind of budget and it saves a lot of space thanks to being able to fold it up. It might not be the best treadmill money can buy, but it is the best treadmill this much money can buy.

    Nautilus T514 Treadmill Review

First off, the nautilus T514 Treadmill retails at around the $1300 mark. Expensive? Well as we know, everything is relative. Personally I think the price is OK for the features/specs it carries.

I received my Treadmill promptly and it was delivered in perfect condition. As usual with these higher end treadmills, this is big and heavy – it is 74 x 32 x 54 inches and weighs 350 pounds. Get the delivery guys to put in in the room you want it to end up in – if not you might not be able to lift it (1 person would really struggle), and if you put it together in the wrong room you are probably not going to be able to get it through a doorway to another room. Using my trusty electric screwdriver it took me just less than an hour to put together.

It is a fold up/down treadmill that is pretty damn big either way you have it. I love that – plenty of room to run on. However make sure you easily have enough room to put the treadmill in before you order it. As with a lot of Nautilus machines you are required to lubricate the machine with 100% silicone before you first use it. Either ignore this but be prepared for a possibly lessened life time, or else buy lubricant when you order the treadmill. I heard a lot of people buy the treadmill, put it together and then realise they cant use it until they pick up some lubricant.

The Nautilus T514 Treadmill has plenty of programs on it already. It has the usual count down programs (10 minute run, 20, etc), a calorie based program (my favourite as I am forever calorie counting) and distance based programs. The display is clear and easy to read, but nothing remarkable. It allows you to create two personal profiles where you can monitor your progress over time.

The speed controls and the incline controls are on on the handbars which is helpful. There are also heart monitors on the handles, that you just hold down on for a few seconds and you get a reading. As always, these treadmill handle heart rate monitors seem a little inaccurate, for me jumping up and down 40 beats and random. However it does have a chest strap  heart monitor that seems very accurate, so fear not.

One of my niggles with certain running machines is the “safety feature” where you clip something onto your clothing whilst the other end magnetically attaches to a power button so if anything should happen to you – you fall off it – it will rip off the magnet and the machine will lose power and stop dead. This has caused more danger to me than anything else about the machine. I listen to my iphone as I’m running and somehow get my ear phones looped in the string and next thing you know I yank it off, stop the treadmill dead and fly forward over the treadmill… well ok that’s an exaggeration but it has caused me some pain.

Another problem with the Nautilus T514 Treadmill is the location of the on/off button. It is at the front bottom of the machine and is a pain to get too – you will have to duck down to turn it off each time, trying not to hit your head. Also the power chord is tiny and you are probably going to need an extension wire unless you are lucky enough to have a plug socket right next to where you plan on having the machine.

The Nautilus T514 Treadmill is a great treadmill, comes at a reasonable cost, and has a couple of slight problems. Not much different from a lot of other treadmills that cost around a $1000! It is a solid choice and I’m sure you will be happy with it – I know I am.
